Idalina Machado

Bachelor, Master and PhD in Sociology from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto, is a Professor at the Higher Institute of Social Work of Porto since 2002. Since 2014 is also Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology of Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto. It is Researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto, since 2004.

Her research interests focus on Urban Sociology, particularly in the problem of fight for the right to the city and housing, in gentrification processes and social mixing and social exclusion of socially disadvantaged groups. Her doctoral thesis, entitled “Lutas Sociais, Habitação e Quotidiano” (Social Struggles, Housing and Daily Life) reflects her research concerns focusing on a residential context of Porto - Bouça Neighborhood.

Between 2002 and 2008 has worked as a Sociologist in Porto City Council in several projects related to planning and urban management: Monitoring System of Urban Quality of Life; Municipal Educational Plan and Social Pre-Diagnosis.

Between 1999 and 2001 was a junior researcher with a scholarship in the research project “Classes Sociais e Modalidades de Estilização de Vida na Cidade do Porto", funded by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia), under the coordination of Professor Virgílio Borges Pereira.

Has participated in the organizing committee of scientific events. She is the author and co-author of book chapters, journal articles and other publications and has participated in national and international conferences.
