About
Abstract: The proposal to create "An Atlas of Religion in Portugal" is based on the need to better understand the forms of territorialisation of religious dynamics, in their different scales and dimensions, where coexist multiple religious identities, places of worship, practices, rituals and religious festivities, movements, and flows. In this context, geographical space is the privileged setting for studying the different manifestations of worship, or even the phenomena of religious belonging and non-belonging. The work on the data of the 2021 census, in the framework of a longitudinal analysis, allows the construction of a cartography of the relationships between religion, social dynamics and territory. This analysis is supported by a spatial reading of demographic flows, economic dynamics and urban changes in different regions of the country.
