2nd Reading Circle
IVAN ILLICH: Society without Schools
Dec 15 | 6:30 p.m.
Gato Vadio Bookstore
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of Ivan Illich (1926-2002), Inês Barbosa (IS-UP) energizes a reading circle around some of the most important works of this Austrian thinker: "Society without Schools" (1971). In it, the author criticizes the institutionalization and alienation of the school institution and proposes a model based on community learning networks. The session takes place at Livraria Gato Vadio, on December 15, at 6:30 p.m.
Reading circles are moments of discussion that honor works or authors from the social sciences and humanities. The participants read a text in advance and it is discussed by the animator or animator of the session. The initiative is organized by IS-UP, with the support of the PhD Club and NASP (Núcleo de Estudantes de Sociologia do Porto).
