Acceleration, Alienation and Resonance: Towards a new theory of modernity
Professor Hartmut Rosa
On 10 October, IS-UP has the honour of welcoming Professor Hartmut Rosa, who will give a lecture entitled "Acceleration, Alienation and Resonance: Towards a new theory of modernity". Hartmut Rosa is Professor of Sociology and Social Theory at the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany, and Director of the Max Weber - Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies at the University of Erfurt. He is also a professor in the Department of Sociology at the New School for Social Research in New York. Among his best-known works are: "Social Acceleration" (2015), "The Uncontrollability of the World" (2020) and "Resonance: A Sociology of Our Relationship to the World" (2021). A leading figure in critical theory, he has received numerous awards, including the Tractatus Award, the Erich Fromm Preis and the Annual Rob Rhoads Global Citizenship Education Award 2020.
